Meric A. Curlis

Meric A. Curlis, 88, of Sycamore, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.

He was the son of William Dodge and Gladys (Vance) Curlis. He was born Oct. 28, 1924. He married Jeanne Ludwig July 3,1949, in Sycamore.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanne; three sons, David (Suzanne) Curlis and Michael (Connie) Curlis, both of Sycamore, and Thomas (Deb) Curlis of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Trisha (Tom) Sefakis, Adrienne (Eric) Kersting, Katherine (Dave) Curlis-West, Siobhan Curlis, Steven Curlis, Sara Beth (Joe) Knisley, Erica (Brandon) Finch and Meric Adam Curlis; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy Robinson of Sycamore.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Curlis.

He graduated from Sycamore High School in the class of 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Infantry 42nd Rainbow Division European Theater during World War II and participated in the Liberation of Dachau. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge and Bronze Star.

Meric was a lifelong farmer and served as a bank director for The First National Bank, Sycamore, for 58 years. He belonged to the Sycamore Enterprise 579 F & AM Lodge for 65 years, Royal Masons, Upper Sandusky, was a life member of American Legion Post No. 250, Tiffin Shrine Club, Stockbusters I and II, was a life member of Upper Sandusky Elks Lodge No. 83 and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Upper Sandusky. He also enjoyed fishing and vacationing with family at their cabin at McGregor Bay, Ontario, Canada for more than 50 years.

His funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Ken Wessler officiating. Interment and military services will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be at 8 p.m.
