FOSTORIA - Criminals in Fostoria, beware, what the Fostoria police department has in store for you is shocking.
Nine Taser units have been ordered for use with non-cooperative individuals and to help avoid police officer injuries, the sale of which were approved by Fostoria City Council Tuesday evening. A Taser projects two electrodes that hit a target and conduct an electrical charge, interrupting the ability of the brain to control the muscles. The city hopes to curb injuries sustained to police personnel when subduing suspects.
The Tasers cost $14,900, facilitated through donations from the community.
One officer has been certified to conduct training, and the department would like to purchase more units in the future. The order of nine is to supply one shift at the department. The department still is accepting donations for future purchases.
One ordinance was passed by council, allowing a payment of $1,500 be made to the Fostoria Economic Development Corp. for the Fair Housing Education and Outreach program.
