Gertrude M. Brandt, 85, of Nevada, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at 7:03 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo.
Gertrude was born Aug. 2, 1927, in London, Ontario, Canada, to Frederick and Mary (Percy) Youmans, both of whom are deceased. She married Robert K. Brandt Oct. 20, 1944, in Cardington. The Rev. Prescott was the officiant. Robert survives in Nevada.
She also is survived by two children, Stephen (Barbara) Brandt of Beaver Dam, Wis., and Sylvia (Terry) Crall of Bucyrus; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Evan) Maughan, Matthew (Christine) Crall, Henry (Crystal) Crall, David (Alaina) Crall, Pamela (Tim) Eilbes and Michael (Amy) Brandt; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James; and two brothers, David Youmans and one who died in infancy.
Gertrude was a homemaker and previously had worked at General Electric and the Timken Co., both in Bucyrus. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, when it was located in Nevada, and graduated in the class of 1945 from Nevada High School.
For hobbies, Gertrude was an avid reader and had a love for animals, whether it was her cats or watching and feeding the birds around her home. She and Robert enjoyed spending their winters in Rockport, Texas, where they enjoyed fishing and bird watching.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Nevada Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Grose officiating.
Following the services at the cemetery, family and friends are invited to the community room of Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, for lunch and fellowship.
