Tiffin has been selected as the only stop in Ohio for the 2013 Pink Heals Tour, a national tour established to raise money for women's cancer treatment and research.
The tour, which features two pink fire engines, a ladder truck and a command vehicle, is expected to arrive in Tiffin around 10 a.m. Aug. 22.
Pink Heals merchandise will be sold out of the command vehicle, and all of the profits are to stay local, Tiffin firefighter Rob Chappell said.
Chappell said the profits will be donated to F.A.C.T of Seneca County and the Stephanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at Ohio State University.
Chappell, who is organizing the event, said he had requested in the fall for the tour to make a stop in Tiffin. He learned about Tiffin being the state's only stop a few months ago.
"It's kind of a cool thing that they picked us," he said.
Chappell said Pink Heals was started by a retired firefighter who traveled with a single truck to about seven U.S. cities. It has grown since its beginnings in 2007 to a whole fleet of fire trucks.
Chappell said the fire trucks will be parked in City Lot 7 and the event will last all day. Attendees will be able to write messages on one of the trucks, he said.
Around 4 p.m., a brief memorial service is scheduled at Tiffin Police and Fire All Patriots Memorial, Chappell said. After the service, a processional will make its way to Camden Falls Reception Hall where a cancer charity dinner will be held.
Chappell said doors will open at 5:30 p.m. A silent auction and raffles, along with a DJ and a buffet, will be featured. Tickets are $25 per person, $40 a couple and $160 for a table of eight. Only 240 tickets will be available, Chappell said.
