A plethora of teaching and non-certified contracts were approved at Thursday evening's meeting of the Vanguard-Sentinel Career and Technology Center Board of Education.
A one year contract was approved for Vanguard social studies teacher Joseph Hay pending proper credentials. Twenty-one were approved for supplemental contracts, 36 as substitute instructors, and 107 as adult education instructors. Nineteen were approved for bus operator certification, eleven as bus operators, fifty-seven as part-time /substitute classified staff, and two supplemental classified staff.
Service agreements approved for the 2013-14 school year include Venzel Communications, Perrysburg, as the provider of district-wide marketing, promotion, and recruitment in an amount not to exceed $66,000, and Brad Borer for wastewater plant maintenance for Sentinel Career and Tech Center in the amount of $5,400.
Contractual agreements approved included a three year agreement with Terra State Community College for The Gateway Program with an estimated fee of $20,000 per year and the Tech Prep Program with an estimated fee of $200,000 per year effective July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2016.
General fund transfers and advances include:
Return advance of $10,000 to the general fund (001) from Vocational Education Planning District (VEPD) fund;
Return advance of $88,700 to the general fund (001) from the OSFC Project Construction Fund (010) pending the receipt of June distribution from OSFC;
Transfer $800,000 from General Fund (001) to permanent improvement fund;
Transfer $409,321 from General Fund (001) to OSFC maintenance fund.
A resolution adopting a calamity day alternative make up plan which entails having pre-planned online study opportunities when schools are closed was approved.
The resolution spells out that not later than November 1 of each school year, each classroom teacher shall develop a sufficient number of lessons for each course taught by that teacher with such lessons requiring, in the judgment of the teacher, an amount of time "equal to or greater than the amount of instructional time the student would receive for three school days in such teacher's class".
The resolution authorized the board to file the annual plan with the Ohio Department of Education by August 1 of each year to provide online learning opportunities for students in lieu of attendance on calamity days.
The board will meet next at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Sentinel CTC in Tiffin.
