Jean M. Armstrong, 86, of Toledo and formerly Tiffin, died Monday, July 1, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Maumee.
Born Feb. 11, 1927, in Tiffin, Jean was the daughter of Melvin and Florence (Yeager) Lynn. She married Doyle A. Armstrong Jan. 9, 1949, at Washington Street Methodist Church, Tiffin.
Surviving are her son, Richard A. (Connie) Armstrong of Newberry, Mich.; sister, Patricia (Joe) Schreiner of Tiffin; three grandchildren, Scott R. (Autumn) Armstrong of Omaha, Neb., Zachary A. (Jolene) Armstrong of Minneapolis Minn., and Abigail L. Armstrong of Newberry, Mich.; and a great-granddaughter, McKenzie Armstrong of Omaha, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 1988.
Jean grew up in Tiffin and graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1945 and the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She had a long career as a registered nurse working at Mercy Tiffin Hospital, Toledo Hospital, in the office of Dr. Thomas D. Geracioti and retired from the American Red Cross. She was a member of the Eastern Star and St. Andrews Church, Toledo. Jean enjoyed music and played the piano beautifully. She loved family gatherings, especially with her sister, niece and nephew and their children. Jean enjoyed her time with her friends; in particular, her dear friend, Pam Spradlin.
Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424, with the Rev. Matt Garrabrandt officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Tiffin.
Friends may visit with the family from 7-9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the time of her funeral Saturday, both at the funeral home.
