The Akron Global Polymer Academy at the University of Akron hosted the fifth annual Rubber Band Contest for Young Inventors.
Emma Studer placed first in the science and engineering division with her invention, Hooves High. Hooves High helps horses lift their hooves over boards. During training, a trainer usually has to manually reset the board if it falls over. Hooves High resets the board instead of the trainer having to reset it. As a result, the trainer can spend more time training and teaching the horse instead reseting the board. Hooves High uses rubber bands because when the board gets hit, the rubber band stretches and pulls the board back in place.
Studer received $2,500 for her ranking. She is an 8th-grader at Buckeye Central Middle School and the daughter of Matt and Tammy Studer.
