Jack Harold Payne, 71, of Tiffin, died at 4 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, at his home.
Jack was born Aug. 21, 1941, in Port Clinton, the eldest son of the late Orville Dennis and Irma Ruth Yoder Payne.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Susan Zeis Payne, whom he married Sept. 1, 1962, at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, Port Clinton; their son and daughter-in-law, John Lockwood Payne and Melissa Ann Crohen, and two grandsons, Jacob Lockwood and Benjamin Crohen Payne, all of Delaware; their son, Christopher Mark Payne of Tiffin; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert Earl and Terris Payne of Gypsum; his brother, Thomas Allen Payne of Key West, Fla.; nephew, William Payne and his son, Brandon; and nephew, Daniel Payne.
Jack attended Port Clinton City Schools, Iowa State University and was a graduate of Tiffin University in 1965, with an accounting degree. He began his business career with Deinzer, Pfeiffer and Co. as an accountant that same year. He acquired the firm in 1968, which became Jack H. Payne & Associates, P.C., Inc., Certified Public Accountants. He retired in 2007.
Jack was a member of Old Trinity Episcopal Church. He also was a member and past president of the Tiffin Jaycees and served as president of the Tiffin Chamber of Commerce. At the time of his death, he was president of the Tiffin-Seneca Library Board of Trustees, a trustee of the Tiffin-Seneca Library Foundation and was treasurer of the Humane Society of Seneca County Board. He also was a long-time member of Tiffin Elks Lodge No. 94. An avid golfer, Jack was a member of Mohawk Golf and Country Club for more than 45 years, where he served as president and was club champion in 1989. He also was a past member of Oakmont Country Club, Oakmont, Pa.
At his request, there will be no funeral. Graveside services at Greenlawn Cemetery, Tiffin, will be private, with the Rev. John Reinheimer officiating.
Friends may visit with the family 1-4 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Mohawk Golf and Country Club, 4399 SR 231, Tiffin.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tiffin University-Orville D. & Irma Ruth Yoder Scholarship Fund, Tiffin-Seneca Library Foundation, Humane Society of Seneca County or Community Hospice Care of Tiffin.
