A Tiffin man appeared in Tiffin Municipal Court Friday after being charged with two felonies and being cited with two traffic violations following a hit-skip crash north of Tiffin Monday.
Charges of aggravated vehicular assault, a third-degree felony, and hit-skip, a fifth-degree felony, were filed against Terry Westerman, 34, Thursday.
He also was cited with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to stop within assured clear distance.
Westerman was referred for an indigency evaluation, was appointed an attorney and is to have a preliminary hearing in Tiffin Municipal Court next week. He was ordered to be released upon signing a personal recognizance bond and a waiver of extradition, according to the court's website.
According to a release, Westerman was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Uplander northbound on SR 53 when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a 1996 Chevrolet Tracker driven by Jeffrey A. Wise, 52, of Tiffin. Wise's vehicle was forced off the roadway and struck a utility pole.
A State Highway Patrol spokesman said Westerman kept driving without stopping and was located at his home in the Fort Seneca area.
Wise was taken by Life Flight from Mercy Tiffin Hospital to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. He was in serious condition Friday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.
