Eugene Jacob ‘Abe’ Gamble

Eugene Jacob "Abe" Gamble, 89, of Norwalk, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at The Willows of Willard.

He was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Norwalk, to the late Clarence and Florence (Blinzley) Gamble and was a lifelong area resident. Eugene married Elsie (Heston) Gamble July 21, 1945, and she preceded him in death in January 2012.

Eugene was retired from Clay Products, Sandusky, and was a disabled World War II veteran. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Norwalk. He loved fishing, was a longtime dartball player and was proud of his military service and of his family. He was a devoted husband and caregiver to his wife for many years. It is only fitting that he died on their wedding anniversary date, having been together for 66 years.

Eugene is survived by his three daughters, Nancy (Gene) Brill of Norwalk and Judy (Jim) Schaaf and Janet (Bob) Ruffing, both of Attica; 11 grandchildren, Candy (Vito) LaSala, Crystal (Greg) Scott, Jerry Brill, Tammy (Darryll) Sndyer, Dawn (Kevin) Pickett, Jacob (Dawn) Schaaf, Jaime (Joe) Priess, Jarrod (Sarah) Schaaf, Sarah (Kenny) Wells, Becca (Kyle) McConnell and Andy Ruffing; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; his brother, Alvin Gamble of New London; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eugene also was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Gamble in infancy and Leroy Gamble; and four sisters, Delores Horner, Grace Scheid, Jane Ward and Mary Lou Ridge.

Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk.

His funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Anthony Recker, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church, will officiate. Interment will be at St. Paul Cemetery.
