Volunteers needed for cleanup of river
Volunteers are asked to register by Aug. 23 for the 15th annual Sandusky River Clean Sweep, to take place Aug. 31.
On cleanup day, registration is 8-8:45 a.m. at shelter 6 in the lower level of Hedges-Boyer Park. The cleanup is to begin at 9 a.m. and end at noon.
Volunteers then are to be treated to a picnic lunch, door prizes and educational displays and activities.

Stream monitoring training at Wolf Creek
Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft Scenic Rivers Program is offering stream quality monitoring training 10 a.m.-noon Aug. 17 at Wolf Creek Park on the Sandusky River.
Volunteers of any age are eligible to receive training, which requires getting into the water to collect information and submitting information to the Scenic Rivers Program.

Migratory game bird seasons to start early
The Ohio Wildlife Council has approved the state's 2013-14 early migratory game bird hunting seasons, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Sept. 1 kicks off the state's bird hunting seasons for mourning dove, Canada goose, rail, moorhen and snipe.
New this year, bag limits for Canada geese and teal have increased, and possession limits after the second day of hunting have increased for all migratory game bird species.
Ohio's dove season is Sept. 1-Oct. 21 and Dec. 15-Jan. 2 with a daily limit of 15 birds and a possession limit of 45 birds after the second day.

Deer hunt lottery
entries due by Oct. 7
BERLIN HEIGHTS - Entries are due Oct. 7 for a random adults-only drawing to select participants for a special controlled deer hunt at Edison Woods MetroPark, 8111 Smokey Road, Berlin Heights.
Winners will receive permission to hunt a portion of the statewide deer gun season Dec. 2-6 in sections of Edison Woods MetroPark.
Edison Woods MetroPark encompasses more than 1,300 acres of sandstone cliffs, wetlands, woodlands and meadows in north central Ohio. The park is home to a variety of seasonal wildflowers, rare plants, amphibians and reptiles.
Interested adults may apply by mailing a piece of paper to Tara Nagaich, Erie MetroParks, 3910 Perkins Ave., Huron, OH 44839 with a $5 application fee of either cash or check (made out to Erie MetroParks). Applications must include a clearly printed name, address, phone number, birth date and whether hunters are mobility impaired.
Public input sought on changes in rules
Ohio Department of Natural Resources is seeking public comments regarding fishing, hunting and trapping rule changes noon-3 p.m. Aug. 10.
Among proposed rule changes are decreasing the statewide yellow perch limit to 30, adding or removing boat engine limitations on several lakes and clarifying hunting and trapping language.
