Jay E. Walton

Jay E. Walton, 82, formerly of rural Sycamore, died at 5:18 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at Inn at Westbrook, Upper Sandusky.

He was born Oct. 31, 1930, in Tiffin, to Robert W. and Velma M. (Adams) Walton. He married Nina Geraldine (Humphrey) Walton Oct. 6, 1961, and she died Feb. 3, 2006.

Surviving are his son, Douglas E. (Eileen) Walton of rural Sycamore; three grandchildren, Lindsay (Joseph) Lewis, Lorraine (Joel) Zaenger and Darby J. Walton; and two stepgrandchildren, Heather and Jacob Newman.

Jay was a retired auctioneer and realtor working from 1950-1989 with Ned F. Gregg, then Paul Wonder Real Estate from 1990-2001 and then working with his son, Doug, until he retired after 60 years and more than 7,000 sales. He also was a retired farmer.

Jay was a 1948 graduate of Sycamore High School, where he served as vice-president. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He also was a member of Sycamore United Methodist Church, where he was a former Sunday School teacher and song leader. He was a past trustee of the former Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Association, past president of the North Central Ohio Angus Cattle Association, member of the Ohio Auctioneer Association, and a member of the Ohio Association of Realtors. He also was enshrined into the Ohio Auctioneer Hall of Fame in 2006.

A funeral for Jay will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Sycamore United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rick Dawson and the Rev. Gary Glasscock officiating. The body will lie in state from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Burial will follow the funeral Tuesday at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, rural Sycamore, where the Sycamore American Legion Post No. 250, along with the Ohio National Guard Honors Team, will conduct a military graveside service.

Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5 at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, 201 Saffel Ave., Sycamore.
