Several years ago, I ran for Tiffin City School Board and gave a speech that used the frog experiment as an opener. The experiment drops a frog into a pan of boiling water and the frog immediately jumps out. You then take the frog and place it in a pan of cool water and slowly raise the temperature of the water. The frog, not sensing the subtle changes, will slowly cook to death (actually, the frog will crawl out before it gets cooked to death, but not in very good shape).
The experiment is intended to demonstrate that we will tolerate subtle changes in the environment until it gets real hot, then we crawl out. However, like the frog, we will not be in very good shape.
Let's look at five years of the Obamanation. We have experienced significant environmental change starting with redistribution (aka stimulus) of money tied to political considerations. We have allowed bureaucrats to pick and choose which businesses and their executives survive. Through executive orders or by the direction of hand-picked czars, top-down job-costing regulations are being issued every day. The economy continues to struggle and, while the unemployment rate has moved down, the overall labor force participation rate is at a 30-year low. People have given up looking for work, the number of individuals on food stamps is at an all-time high and the Obama administration keeps pushing for more freebies (aka votes).
Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid use up half of the federal budget, yet the Obama administration has not put a plan forward to deal with this problem. Some say Obamacare (aka The Affordable Care Act) addresses some of this problem. Recently, implementation of the employer mandate was delayed by presidential edict, the insurance exchanges are not close to being functional, tax increases associated with this legislation will go into effect this year and the majority of the people in this country want the law repealed or changed. In addition to not addressing entitlements, he has not presented a budget during his time in office that has been acceptable to anyone (including his own party). Consequently, we run the country on continuing resolutions, while piling up unsustainable deficits.
We now are experiencing a media campaign by the president who is traveling around the country giving speeches stating businesses are creating new jobs and have record profits, yet nearly all income gains have continued to flow to the top 7 percent. That is a fact.
Does it not seem odd that Obama touts such facts, because such facts indict his policies. Blame it on Bush is history; this is his economy. - an economy that has a real unemployment rate (national U6 rate which includes people who can only find part-time work or are too discouraged to look for a job) of 14.3 percent. There are 9 million more unemployed people now than when he took office. During his first two years, he had both houses of Congress, and all we got was the Affordable Care Act and implementation of redistribution (politically directed stimulus).
Several Democrats and elements of his base (large unions) are questioning the Affordable Care Act. No worries on his part, as he is a master at giving speeches and horrible at governing. Nothing in his background has prepared him to lead anything. Not having the leadership skills to effectively address issues such as Benghazi, the IRS and the Justice Department targeting media reporters, he resorts to his strength, using speeches to call such issues fake and phony. Try telling that to the families of the four individuals who lost their lives in Benghazi.
I hope we are as smart as the frog and still can crawl out, albeit a little worse off from the experience. However, I have my doubts, because we have the Axis of Indoctrination (Hollywood celebrities, mainstream media and academia) that, for whatever reason, have a love affair with this president.
Come on, people, the water is getting really hot; it is time to crawl out.
