SYCAMORE - The Mohawk Board of Education has moved into the newly renovated offices located in the Community Center. The administrative offices have also been relocated to the Community Center.
Garry Montgomery of Dynamix Engineering presented two options for upgrading the energy systems for the campus. The first option would cost $908,000 and would result in a 30-percent energy savings and could pay for itself in 8.1 years.
This option would upgrade the controls, giving more local control.
The second option would include all the features of the first option but would also include replacing one of the chillers with a more efficient unit. The new chiller would reduce wear on the existing chiller that would alleviate concerns about the major expense of replacing the seven-year-old chillers. This option would cost $1,388,000 with a 38-percent energy savings with a payback of 9.7 years.
Option one could be funded through HB 264, which would allow the district to borrow the money for up to 14 years and would involve state oversight on the program. Option two could be accomplished through a lease purchase.
Superintendent Ken Ratliff, high school principal Brett Graham and elementary principal Nelle Nutter reported on improvements for the upcoming school year. The digital academy has been expanded, with more technology and a full-time teacher. New computer labs and whiteboards have been added and teachers now have laptop workstations. Two more in-house post-secondary option courses in conjunction with Tiffin University have been added. A fourth second-grade class has been added.
In other business, the board:
Set class fees for grades K-8 at $35.
Approved handbooks for the elementary, junior high and high school handbooks the athletic handbook as amended by the board.
Agreed to make payments to parents in lieu of transportation for Tiffin Catholic Schools.
Amended a sub-lease with the Mohawk Community Investors.
Contracted with North Central Ohio Educational Service Center for assistance in obtaining reimbursement for Medicaid-eligible expenses.
Approved an extension agreement with W.A.T.C.H. TV.
Designated Doug Walton as delegate and Roger Luring as alternate to the OSBA conference.
In personnel matters, the board hired substitute bus drivers, certified employees, teachers and teachers' aides.
