SYCAMORE - Marion Pleasant came out with a fire lit on opening night. That fire would not soon fizzle, even after posting 30 points in the first quarter in a 58-12 win over Mohawk.
The Spartans scored 37 seconds into the game, then added a safety on Mohawk's opening drive, tackling Logan Stillberger in the end zone.
Pleasant's offense didn't let up, scoring 51 unanswered points in the first half. Mohawk's first of only two offensive touchdowns came from Eric Maskey with a 3-yard run with two minutes left in the third quarter. Maskey scored the Warriors' other touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
Mohawk quarterback Grant Gucker went 5 for 9 passing for 79 yards. The Warriors added 125 yards rushing on 31 attempts.
Maskey ran six times for 72 yards.
Caudill-led Tigers overwhelm South Central
GREENWICH - Ethan Caudill threw five touchdown passes Friday as Seneca East blasted South Central 54-21.
Caudill hooked up with Adam Hall for three scores, completing TD passes of 42, 3 and 15 yards.
He also found Isaac Phillips for a 6-yard strike and fired 45-yard touchdown pass to Cory Depinet.
Caudill ended 16 for 21 through the air for 264 yards.
Alex Scheiber scored on runs of 2 and 5 yards, and Danny Bowerman tacked on a 58-yard scoring sprint for the Tigers.
"We played really really well. Offensively we never really missed a beat," Seneca East coach Ed Phillips said. "We just came out rolling and played that way the whole game."
Josh Waggoner tallied 10 tackles for the Tigers and Devin Buchholz added eight. Hall picked off a pass and recovered a fumble, Brayden Walker intercepted a pass and Garrett Crapo, Jake Schoen and Ryan Bowerman each picked off a pass.
Lakota blasts Arcadia
KANSAS - The Lakota Raiders hosted Arcadia in their season opener, blanking the Redskins, 38-0.
The Raiders came out strong with 20 first half points.
Quarterback Colin Timmons rushed for a touchdown in the first quarter giving the Raiders an early lead. Timmons also hooked up with Dakota Bowling on a 20-yard pass for a touchdown in the second.
Lakota's Josh Kirkpatrick and Jordan Smith combined to record a saftey, as the Raider defense got in on the scoring. Even more so when Albert Guerra returned an interception 27 yards for a touchdown.
A Collin Timmon's 21 yard touchdown pass to Guerra padded an already sizable lead in the second half.
Jordan Jaso rushed 72 yards for a score and a four-yard rush by Madison Jaso would give Lakota its last touchdown. The Raiders rushed 29 times for 222 yards and were 6 for 8 in pass completions with a touchdown.
Five turnovers too much for H-L
LEIPSIC - Leipsic's defense scored off one of the five turnovers it forced Friday in a 33-20 win over Hopewell-Loudon.
Hopewell-Loudon led 6-0 after Cody Malone's 1-yard plunge with less than a minute left in the open ing half, but the Vikings dominated in the second half.
Ross Mangas found Nate Brecht for a 29-yard TD pass with 9:36 left in the third quarter, and Zack Kuhlman threw two more scoring passes in the period.
The first of those came just 17 seconds after the one from Mangas, with Isaiah Lomeli reeling in a 38-yard strike. Kuhlman later found Dylan Schey for a 27-yard score to put the Vikings up 20-6.
Jordan Chamberlin added an 84-yard interception return in the fourth quarter.
The Chieftains closed the gap in the final period, with Austin Tooker finding Jordan Stewart for a 45-yard TD pass and Noah Breidenbach crashing in from a yard out.
Titans flatten Fostoria
FOSTORIA - Ottawa-Glandorf scored on five of its six possessions in the first half and bottled up Fostoria in a 55-0 season-opening whipping.
Brad Racer scored on runs of 1 and 28 yards and Logan Rieman had TD passes of 28 yards to Tyler Zender and 55 yards to Colin Laubenthal to fuel the Titans in the first half.
Shane Schroeder added a 22-yard scoring sprint in the first quarter and Kyle Niese crashed in from 6 yards out in the second.
Rieman tacked on two 1-yard scoring plunges in the third quarter. He ended with six carries for 30 yards and went 13 for 17 passing for 227 yards.
Laubenthal caught three passes for 78 yards and Zender had three catches for 53 yards. Schroeder ran seven times for 75 yards and Racer had eight carries for 64 yards.
Fostoria managed only 53 yards passing and 74 yards rushing.
Maurice Haskins ran 10 times for 25 yards for the Redmen and C.J. Twinning caught two passes for 41 yards.
