ATTICA - Tiffin Police Department Officer Jake DeMonte and K9 Andy made a special visit to Seneca East Local Schools' first graders Friday.
DeMonte came to speak to the kids about what police dogs do and what the department uses them for.
Andy, a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, is a dual-purpose dog and assists the department in many ways.

Tiffin Police Officer Jake DeMonte shows first graders at Seneca East skills K9 Andy can do during a demonstration at the school Friday.
DeMonte, Andy's handler, had to learn how to speak Dutch in order to command Andy. That means he is the only one who can control Andy, he told students.
During the demonstration, DeMonte showed the children commands and how fast Andy can run.
The visit was prompted after the Seneca East first graders learned about the importance of rules in and out of the classroom and how important it is to follow the law, Seneca East teacher Renee Bridgford said.
DeMonte said he hasn't done a school demonstration in about three years, but he said doing them increases awareness in the community and helps kids see cops are neither bad nor scary.
