ATTICA - It was a Ruff trip to Attica for Danbury. Cameil Ruffing (6) and Mykayla Ruffing (5) combined for 11 kills to help Seneca East to a three-game victory over the Lakers 25-12, 25-11, 25-10.
Mykayla Ruffing also dished out nine assists and had an ace. Kylie Ruffing added in an ace, a pair of kills and a pair of digs.
Kristen Bowerman led the balanced Tiger offense with eight kills to go along with four aces and two blocks. Rachel Bauman chipped in five aces and five kills while handing out eight assists.
Seneca East improves to 3-4 on the season.
Phillips' defense leads Columbian
Brandy Phillips, and Columbian, did it with defense Tuesday night.
The Tornadoes' outside hitter had 12 digs, giving TC a lift early in a 25-13, 25-12, 20-25, 25-21 win over Northern Ohio League rival Shelby. Taylor Reinbolt had 12 digs as well, and Columbian had 54 overall.
Columbian coach Bill Bonham said Phillips' impact went beyond the stat line.
"Brandy Phillips set the tone," he said. "You could hear bones smacking from her diving and saving the ball. Brandy beat herself up so bad I started giving her breaks."
Maddie Williams added nine digs to go with 10 kills, while Haley Sendelbach smacked a team-best 19 kills and six blocks. Tessa Fuhrer dished out 16 assists while serving two aces. Alyssa Price had 20 assists and two aces.
The Tornadoes improved to 4-3, 1-1 in the NOL
"We played with some excitement for a change," Bonham said.
Rams rip Riverdale
UPPER SANDUSKY - Riverdale was getting incrementally better in Tuesday's match against Riverdale, but at the rate the match was going, it would've been a while until the Falcons caught up with the Rams.
Upper Sandusky clipped the Falcons by a 25-8, 25-10, 25-12 count Tuesday. Taylor Graboski's 13 kills led the Rams. Jessi Holly added nine kills while Molly Owens and Kalene Johnson each slammed nine. Emma Smith set them up to the tune of 31 assists, while also serving five aces.
Jenna Holly had four aces and led the defense with 16 digs as the Rams stayed unbeaten at 5-0.
