Outlook: Calvert had a good season a year ago, but it couldn't quite beat out Mohawk for the Midland Athletic League title.

The Senecas were young and inexperienced last season, which Hendrix said may have accounted for some close losses.

This year, he said, that shouldn't be an issue.

"We're just ready to take one step forward," Hendrix said. "We were young last year, we can't use that as an excuse anymore. The kids have to break through that wall."

To help get through that wall, the coach said the team will lean on Lucius and Perry.

"It's Meridith's third year," Hendrix said. She's been through the wars, played a lot ... we're gonna rely on her."

Hendrix said Perry had a strong freshman year.

"Amber Perry was a freshman and stepped up and was just a rock, providing presence in the middle," Hendrix said. "She's ready to take the next step."

Hendrix also praised the play of Felter, who he said is a good complement to Perry.

"There aren't that many players the quality of Haley Felter," he said.

Hendrix said there is potential for a big season.

"It's a process of learning how to win and we're ready to do it," he said. "Now we've got the experience to go with the talent."
