SANDUSKY - Halloweekends at Cedar Point amusement park open Friday, the 17th season for the fall attraction. The summer flowers have been replaced with corn stalks, scarecrows, tombstones, skeletons, pumpkins and spider webs.
The roller coasters and most of the other rides are to be operating. The park has added Zombie High School for 2013 and brought back scary favorites from previous years. Gypsy fortune tellers are to be on the midway for consultation. Live shows take a macabre turn with magic, the Skeleton Crew and other creatures taking to the park's various stages and roaming the midway.
After-dark activities are not suitable for young children, but younger patrons are welcome to participate in daytime events Saturday and Sunday. They can dress for a costume contest at 2 p.m. both days, watch a parade at 4 p.m. both days and meet with "Peanuts" characters and friendly monsters. A new attraction for children is the Howl-O-Palooza, with a hay bale maze and a fun house.
Halloweekends continue Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays until Oct. 27.
