A Tiffin man is to be recognized today at the 2013 Ohio Fire Service Hall of Fame Awards and Ceremony in Reynoldsburg.
According to information from the State Fire Marshal's Office, Gary Magers has been selected as one of two people to receive a citizen's award at the ceremony.
Magers, who also received a heroism award at the 46th annual Hero Awards Banquet in Maumee earlier this year, was selected to receive this award for his role in steering a tour bus to safety after it was involved in an accident in Lorain County in April 2012.
He and A.J. Green, who will be receiving a valor award at the ceremony today, had taken over a tour bus on the Ohio turnpike after it struck a semi-truck, leaving the driver unconscious and trapped in the wreckage. The impact also caused the steering mechanisms to break.
The bus had been on its way from Fremont to New York City. The men were able to bring the bus to a stop after it traveled about a mile.
