Luke E. Weinandy, 86, of Alvada, died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at his home.
He was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Seneca County, son of the late Clarence A. and "Lena" (Tiell) Weinandy. He married Mary Lou Nye May 20, 1950, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Alvada, and she survives in Alvada.
Also surviving are his seven children, Karen Helms of Fostoria, Ron (Jane) Weinandy of Alvada, Sandy (Joe) Fredritz of Carey, Paul Weinandy of Alvada, Erma (Mike) Hemminger of New Riegel, Tina (Bill) Strausbaugh of Tiffin and Leon (Barb) Weinandy of Alvada, 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Martha Weinandy of Carey; a brother, Ralph (Mary Louise) Weinandy of Alvada; and a sister-in-law, Doris Weinandy of New Riegel.
He also was preceded in death by a son, Earl Weinandy; an infant brother, Hilary Weinandy; and two brothers, Cyril (Audrey) Weinandy and Lloyd Weinandy.
Luke was a lifelong Seneca County farmer. He retired from Sterling Abrasives, Tiffin, after many years. He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Nicholas Chapel, Frenchtown. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Friends and family will be received from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with a scripture service at 1:30 p.m.
His Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at All Saints Parish, St. Nicholas Chapel, Frenchtown, with Fr. Tim Kummerer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Frenchtown.
