Sister Catherine Clare Strasburger

Sister Catherine Clare Strasburger, formerly Sister Mary Jude Strasburger, 95, of the Sisters of St. Francis of Tiffin, died at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.

Sister "Cathy Clare" was born Sept. 28, 1917, in Lakewood, to Joseph and Anna (Vereb) Strasburger.

She is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Sister Cathy Clare was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Agnes Vasel, Sister Mary Agnes Strasburger, PCC, Sister Mary Coletta Strasburger, OSF/T, Mary Shimko, and Helen Mazur; and three brothers, Joseph Strasburger Jr., Andrew Strasburger and a second brother, Andrew Strasburger.

Sister Catherine Clare Strasburger, of Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish, Lakewood, served as a housekeeper in Miller City, Bucyrus, Reed, Peru, New Cleveland, Payne and Toledo. She cared for elderly men and women residents at St. Francis Home, Tiffin, was in charge of the dining room at St. Anthony Pilgrim House in Carey, and served at St. Anthony Villa as housemother, priests' housekeeper, and assistant infirmarian. She also worked at Toledo Hospital as a nurse aide, unit clerk and receptionist.

In her later years, Sister Catherine Clare turned her energy and generous heart to volunteer service at Toledo Hospital, the Helping Hands Program, Mercy Toledo Hospital, Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Mercy Tiffin Hospital, and as a minister of service at St. Francis Home. At the time of her death, she was a resident and minister of prayer and service at St. Francis Home, Tiffin. Sister Cathy Clare delighted in traveling, making pilgrimages to various Marian shrines and spending time with her family and friends.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today, Sept. 20, 2013, at St. Francis Home chapel followed by additional visitation from 2-8 p.m. at St. Francis Convent chapel. A wake service will be at 4 p.m. at the convent chapel.

Her funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at St. Francis Convent chapel, with the Rev. Frank Murd celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Convent Cemetery. Visitation also will be 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Convent chapel.
