Richard H. "Dick" Smith, 72, of Clarksfield, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013.
He was born April 5, 1941, in Nevada, to the late Charles "Chuck" and Annabel Smith. Dick resided in the New London area for more than 50 years. He was a 1959 graduate of New London High School.
Dick was a farmer and owned his own excavating business. He loved the outdoors, working, observing nature, fishing, hunting, and spending time with friends, family and neighbors.
He is survived by his four children, Scott (Ann) McCague, Marc (Mercedes) Smith, Craig Smith and Kim (Chris) Gallagher; five grandchildren; and three siblings, Geneva Secrist of Lima, Marilyn Keller of Sycamore and Charles Edwin "Ed" Smith of New London.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Jane Smith.
Dick's family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St,. New London.
His funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Clarksfield Methodist Cemetery, New London.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to New London Recreation Park, 115 E. Main St., New London, OH 44851.
