ATTICA Attica Village Administrator Greg Martin told council members Thursday night the village will not be receiving funding from Issue I this year. They will now make a request through small government funding in the district and should have results in October.
The Attica-Venice-Reed Joint Fire District recently recognized several members who retired from their years of service to the department. Nate Frisch, George Williams, Craig Hahler, Richard Auckland and Dwight Everhart had more than 130 years of experience combined.
The Seneca County EMS is looking to recognize volunteer providers and is asking the townships to nominate candidates.
Police Chief Keith Turner recommended reserve Officer Charles Ojeda be hired as a part-time officer. Council moved to approve hiring Ojeda at $8 per hour starting when his physical results are received.
Councilman Jeff Painter announced he is forming a flag committee consisting of 3-6 people that are interested in mounting American flags on poles through the village next year. Having received permission from AEP to use their poles, he plans to order 50 flags. If interested, contact Painter, Turner or George Yakoubian.
Fiscal Officer Pat Krebs reported a total of $811,766.07 in all funds. She also received council's approval to change the renewal date for health insurance from Sept. 1 to Dec. 1, costing the village an additional $600. A 2 percent increase begins in 2014.
Councilman Yakoubian presented a flyer for the upcoming police replacement levy on the Nov. 5 ballot. He asked for suggestions from other members.

Heard the season's last downtown farmers' market runs from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m, Oct. 12.
Approved moving the Nov. 28 meeting to Nov. 26.
Discussed farming being done under the guide wire to the communication tower.
Approved giving an easement to Sunoco Logistics for use of an access road for an additional $545.
Heard L&L Paving will begin the Seneca St. project Tuesday.
