Tiffin University's next Good Morning World breakfast lecture is to feature TU Alum George Whitfield Jr. at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at Camden Falls Reception & Conference Center, 2460 S. SR 231.
Whitfield is to present "Quarterback Engineering." He graduated from TU in 2001 and was a former college and arena league quarterback.
Now residing in San Diego, he is running his quarterback training academy firm, Whitfield Athletix.
"George has had incredible success, with his Whitfield Athletix venture and with coaching up and coming quaterbacks in college and the NFL," Ron Schumacher, vice president for development and public affairs, said. "He also coaches those in high school that are aspiring to be in the NFL."
After graduating from TU, Whitfield went on to pursue a career in professional football. Although he received no offers out of college due to a separated shoulder injury, he decided to continue training and attend work-out sessions with teams as well as sign on as a graduate assistant with the University of Iowa Hawkeyes.
From there he worked with teams including the Chicago Rush, Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings, Louisville Fire and Memphis Xploreres.
After establishing Whitfield Athletix in 2004, he has trained quarterbacks from 35 different states. One of his greatest professional accomplishment is in the Heisman Trophy awarded to Johnny Manziel.
"People that come and see George will see his talents of bringing new coaching techniques," Schumacher said. "He will definitely be an interesting Good Morning World speaker."
