The Tiffin City Board of Education concluded a series of interviews Saturday during a special meeting in order to fill the superintendent position.
The board interviewed seven candidates. No action was taken after the meeting.
Board President Kathy Venema said the next steps for the board are to pass feedback to Ohio School Board Association's Cheryl Ryan, deputy director of school board services, and to contact the candidates to discuss interests.
Next week, the board is to conduct reference checks on the candidates and is to look to begin second round interviews Nov. 13 and 14.
Superintendent Donald Coletta is set to retire Dec. 31. The board wishes to have his replacement by the next board meeting, later this month.
Candidates interviewed were James Gunner, superintendent for Perkins Local Schools; Richard Smith, superintendent for North Union Local Schools;
Ken Ratliff, superintendent for Mohawk Local Schools; Vicki Wheatley, assistant superintendent for Eastland-Fairfield Career and Technical Schools; Curtis Clough, superintendent of Strasburg-Franklin Local Schools; Bruce Kidder, superintendent for Frontier Local Schools; and Daren Jenkins, former superintendent of Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center.
The board is to have the list narrowed down in the coming weeks and they plan to conduct records checks and to conduct a second round of interviews.
Venema said they were impressed with the pool of candidates.
"They all have a strong administrative experience," she said. "Our goal is to look for the individual that will make the best educational leader for Tiffin and the students."
