Richard A. Bergman, 81, of Port Clinton, died at 6:20 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
Richard was born Aug. 9, 1932, in Port Clinton, to Rollin and Jesse (Warnke) Bergman. He married Carole (Toepper) Feb. 14, 1987, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, and she survives in Port Clinton.
Survivors also include three daughters, Patricia (Tom Powers) Navarro of Fremont, Betty (Mike) Bennett of Fremont and Sandra (Edward) Greunke of Columbus; four stepchildren, Todd (Susan) Conn of Tiffin, Lori (Shawn Curry) Good of Columbus, David (Laura) Conn of Tiffin and Jennifer (Bob) Miller of Fostoria; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Bettinger of Berkey.
Richard retired from Columbus Gas Co. after 36 years. He was a member of Port Clinton VFW, American Legion and Nugent's Canal Yacht Club, where he was the past commodore. Richard was an avid Ohio State University football, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan. Richard was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving during Korea.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Don Bergman; and a sister, Marge Bergman.
His funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory, 135 N. Washington St., Tiffin, (419) 447-1221. Burial will follow at Seneca Memory Gardens, Tiffin, with military honors being rendered by the United Veterans Council.
Visitation for family and friends will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
