Philip E. Goist, 78, of Carey, died at 6:40 p.m., Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at Birchaven Village, Findlay.
Philip was born March 31, 1935, in Beaver Falls, Pa., to Philip B. and Eva Ann (Sommerville) Goist. He married Marlene E. Bare May 12, 1962, and she survives in Carey.
Also surviving are a son, Eugene (Nicole) Goist of Sycamore; two granddaughters, Kirstin (Charles) Hinton of Tiffin and Kalene Goist of Sycamore; and a sister, Paulette Shaw of Tiffin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Steven M. Goist.
Philip was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and retired from Whirlpool in 1998 after 29 years. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carey, Masonic Enterprise Lodge No. 579, Sycamore, and American Legion No. 354, New Riegel.
Philip enjoyed volunteering at Blanchard Valley Hospital with his wife and playing cards, especially euchre. He was a soccer coach and a Cub Scout leader.
Friends and family will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, where a Masonic service will take place at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service is 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home, with the Rev. William Schultz officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.
