Barbara F. Orwig, born Nov. 30, 1947, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at her home in Fairway, Kan.
She was the daughter of the late Francis L. Ruffing and Doris M. (O'Connell) Ruffing. She is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Orwig; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Lori Orwig of Frenchtown, Mont.; siblings, David Ruffing, Karen (Dick) Cramer and Ronald (Nancy) Ruffing, all of Tiffin, Jerry (Susan) Ruffing of Perrysburg and Sharon (Ed) Murphy of Bella Vista, Calif.; plus seven nieces; and four nephews.
She graduated from Calvert High School, Tiffin, and received a bachelor's degree from Toledo University, Toledo. Barb was co-founder and president/publisher of Career Communications Inc., Publishers of American Careers Educational Programs; as well as, founder and CEO of The Teaching & Learning Compact Inc.
Barb loved life, spending time with her family and friends, traveling, socializing, snow skiing and attending her son's football games at the University of Montana. She loved each and every person and would light up a room with her presence. Barb was very active in many professional organizations including the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium, National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity (NAPE), NAPE Education Foundation board member, past president and board member of National Technical Honor Society and board member of Association of Family Consumer Sciences.
Her memorial Mass will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 5250 Mission Road, Roeland Park, Kan., following the rosary at 12:30 p.m. A private memorial service will take place at a later date in Tiffin.
