LEXINGTON- Columbian traveled to Lexington for a tri-meet along with Plymouth and came out 1-1.
Columbian posted a victory over Plymouth 60-18 with three pins coming in less than a minute. Lalo Ludwick pinned Nathan Redding in 58 seconds at 106 pounds. Drew Hoffman pinned Anthony Kitt in 26 seconds at 113 pounds. Columbian 152 pounder Mason Correll pinned Cole Hursh in 26 seconds. Pins also came from TC's Joey Krajewski (132), Jacob Reyes (138), Roman Williams (145) and Jacob Parrott (220). The Tornadoes' Cain Lachner won by decision, 10-8, over Jacob Ringer, as well as Tyler Messnard winning 3-1 over Chance Butcher.
What started off as a feel-good night for Columbian turned bowling shoe ugly against Division II 11th ranked Lexington.
Lexington recorded six pinfall victories over the Tornadoes, and two tech fall decisions in its 64-15 win. The Tornadoes' Correll, Ludwick and Hoffman were the only wrestlers to go undefeated on the night.
Ludwick and Hoffman won via forfeit against Lexington, while Correll scored a 9-2 decision over TJ Deerheardt.
"We went into the evening putting an emphasis on 'Get pins, don't get pinned,'" said Columbian coach Chad Long.
"I think after our guys saw Williams get beat, it snowballed out of control. He is one of our studs and our guys aren't used to seeing that," he said. "We go after the best teams in the state. We want to see what the measuring stick is, and how far we need to go to become it. I don't put stock in these losses. We need to see where we stand as a program and where we need to be at the end of the year."
