NEW RIEGEL - New Riegel shot a shade better than 50 percent from the field and used a big run in third quarter to take control Friday in a 59-35 Midland Athletic League win over St. Wendelin.
The Blue Jackets (2-4, 2-1 MAL) entered halftime with a 26-18 lead before using an 18-4 surge in the third period to take control.
Jake Dryfuse's 18 points led the way for New Riegel, which ended 24 for 47 from the field.
Michael Kirian added nine points and four steals and Chad Cassidy chipped in eight points and five rebounds. Aaron Acree grabbed six boards and Travis Williams dished three assists.
Nick Root netted 14 points for the Mohawks (1-5, 0-3) and Gabe Walters tossed in 12. Root also snared five steals and Walters grabbed seven rebounds.
Kin claims win No. 150 as Carey routs Lakota
KANSAS - Jared Wentling turned in a double-double Friday to help coach C.J. Kin claim his 150th win as Carey thumped Midland Athletic League foe Lakota 73-36.
Wentling scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Blue Devils (4-2, 3-0 MAL).
Bryan Powers registered 21 points and four steals for Carey and Abel LaRoche scored 13 points.
Josh Kirkpatrick scored 15 points for the Raiders (2-4, 1-2), Dakota Bowling netted 10 points and Kyle Below hauled in eight boards.
Rams pull away in fourth
MOUNT BLANCHARD - Wes Vent and Brad Roeder each topped 20 points and a teammate scored 15 Friday in Upper Sandusky's 81-69 North Central Conference triumph over Riverdale.
Vent pumped in a game-high 28 points for the Rams (4-2, 2-0 NCC), Roeder scored 23 and Seth Frey added 15.
It was a close game until the fourth quarter, when Upper Sandusky doubled up the Falcons (3-3, 0-2) 26-13.
Eagles drop Bucks to stay perfect
NORTH ROBINSON - Colonel Crawford gained breathing room in the second quarter and kept Buckeye Central at bay from there Friday for a 60-48 North Central Conference win.
The Eagles (7-0, 2-0 NCC) finished the first quarter clinging to a 12-10 lead before outscoring the Bucks 21-9 in the second.
Connor McCreary led the assault with 20 points, Logan Sager scored 17 and Dylan Gulley tossed in 11. Nate Klingenberger hauled in seven rebounds.
Cade Kaple's 20 points sparked Buckeye Central (5-1, 1-1). Austin Wurm scored 11 points and Seth Ollis had six boards.
Rossford races away in second
FOSTORIA - Rossford rocketed away in the second quarter on a 29-12 run to beat Northern Buckeye Conference foe Fostoria 68-50 Friday.
The Bulldogs (5-2, 4-0 NBC) led 16-9 at the first stop, but took control in the second period.
Derek Mack (14), Mack Miller (13) and Brian Burks (12) combined for 39 points for Rossford.
Hunter Abell and Bishop Mahan each scored eight points for the Redmen (1-5, 0-3). Drew Stennett grabbed six rebounds, Abell had five and Kobey Bemis handed out four assists.
Calvert girls improve to 8-0, Clyde next
TOLEDO - Calvert took care of business Friday night, setting up a showdown Monday at Heidelberg.
Kate Brickner had 19 points, Nicole Bickley added nine points and nine rebounds, and Taylor Ritzler scored 11 points as the Senecas moved to 8-0 with a 53-47 win over the Toledo Christian.
The Senecas next game is Monday against Amanda Cahill and Division II power Clyde, which also comes into the game undefeated. The contest will take place at Seiberling Gymnasium.
The Senecas came out rolling, grabbing a 21-12 lead over the Eagles after the first quarter. They led 31-20 at halftime.
The Eagles made a run in the second half behind Faith Johnson, who made nine baskets and finished with 23 points. Calvert's lead was cut to four after three quarters.
But Calvert, which held a 35-26 rebounding advantage, pulled out the win.
The Senecas went to the stripe 27 times in the win, making 17. The Eagles took just 11 foul shots, making six.
