Maxine Carrick, 95, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014.
Maxine was an 88-year resident of Tiffin and Melmore. She moved to Austin, Texas, in 2006 to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Maxine was born in 1918, in Melmore, to George A. and Edith M. (Briney) Scheerer. She was raised on the Baker farm along with her sister, Kathryn (Scheerer) Mesnard. She married William C. Weddell in 1940. They were married until his untimely death in 1961. Maxine was remarried in 1966 to Brett Carrick Jr., until his death in 1994.
Maxine attended the Baker School (Little Red Schoolhouse) and graduated from Melmore High School. She then attended and graduated from Tiffin Business School, which is now Tiffin University. Maxine worked as an accountant and secretary in Tiffin for more than 67 years. She was proud to say she worked until she was 85 years old.
Maxine was an extraordinary person, caring for everyone and always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends at the drop of a hat. She never asked anything of anyone that she herself would not do. She loved decorating, gardening and shopping. Maxine took great pride in her home, inside and out, always working to have the most beautiful yard in Tiffin.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Joanne (Weddell) Brown and husband Robert C. Brown of Austin, Texas; stepdaughter, Deborah Carrick of Scottsdale, Ariz.; granddaughter, Julianne King and husband, Mark King; great-granddaughter, Grayson King and great-grandson, Sutton King, all of Magnolia, Texas; three nieces, Carolyn (Weddell) Huffman and Marylou (Hamilton) Roberts, both of Tiffin and Mary (Carrick) Bright of Columbus; and two nephews, Terry L. Mesnard of Duluth, Ga., and Rick Carrick of Columbus.
