Judge Jay Meyer Thursday filed petitions with the Seneca County Board of Elections to seek a second term as the Seneca County juvenile and probate judge.
Meyer filed to appear on the Republican ballot in the May 6 primary election.
"I am proud of our court's accomplishments my first five years in office," Meyers stated in a press release. "Through the efforts of my talented staff, we have cut costs, increased revenue, constructed a new Youth Center and enhanced court services."
Under Meyer, a full-time magistrate position, a part-time magistrate position and two full-time clerk positions have been eliminated.
Meyer also obtained grant funding for updating of court vehicles and worked with Heidelberg University to create Partners in Academic Coaching for Excellence, which is designed to pair children on probation with Heidelberg students to enhance their academic performance.
Meyer was born and raised in Tiffin and served as an assistant Seneca County prosecutor from 1996 to 1998. He then went into private practice, working for Shuff Law Offices until becoming partner in 1999. In addition to his private practice, he served as an acting judge in Tiffin Municipal Court from 2003-08.
