Evelyn J. (Lather) Manecke, 89, of Tiffin, passed away at 9:50 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Seneca House in Tiffin.
Evelyn was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Salem, to the late Harry Christ and Lillian (Esenwein) Lather. She was married to Wayne R. Manecke at the First English Lutheran Church in Tiffin by the Rev. Wayne O. Kantner, on April 21, 1945, and he preceded her in death July 14, 2007.
Survivors include her son, Larry W. (Linda) Manecke of Tiffin; and daughter, Judith (Dennis) Rule of Kent; two sisters, Dorothy Smith and Betty McKillip, both of Tiffin; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Sean) Twaits of Fort Wayne, Ind., Rebecca (David) Covert of Delaware; two great-grandsons, Brady and Carter Covert, both of Delaware.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, LeVern Lather.
Evelyn worked at the JCPenny Store in Tiffin and for the Sears Catalog department. She was a member of the Family of Faith Church, the Y-Wives Club, local bowling, golf leagues, card clubs and the sewing club. Evelyn was a graduate of Rawson High School, class of 1942.
A Celebration of Evelyn's life will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the First Christian Church, 2016 S. CR 19, Tiffin, OH 44883, with the Rev. Mark Brodbeck officiating. The family also requests all attendees wear something pink for Evelyn if they have it in their closet. There will be no visitation and a private family burial held at Greenlawn Cemetery at a later date. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin is assisting the family with their arrangements.
