COLUMBUS - The Heidelberg University women's basketball team lost 68-58 against Capital despite the Crusaders giving up a season-high of 21 turnovers.
Capital entered the game No.1 in the OAC with fewest turnovers, averaging 14 turnovers per contest. Yet, The Crusaders forced 19 'Berg miscues to keep themselves in the game.
Heidelberg came out of the gate early to lead 16-8 with 12:48 in the first half. Capital was able to rally back to take the lead 29-25 with 3:28 left in the half. The Student Princes knotted the contest, 31-31, but Capital was able to take the reigns back by the end of the half, leading 33-31.
In the second half, Heidelberg trailed 51-43 at the 9:53 mark. After the 'Berg women were able to cut the deficit by three with five minutes left in regulation, a 3-pointer kept Heidelberg from ever getting within two possessions of the Crusaders.
Kathleen Phillips paced Heidelberg with 21 points going 7-12 from the field, including a 3-pointer, and shooting 6 of 7 at the line. Nicole Payne added 9 points and Carli Patrick put up 7 points and led the team in rebounds with six.
St.?Wendelin alumni Cookie Geroski led the Crusaders with 15 total points in the win.
The Crusaders outscored Heideleberg 28-12 in the paint and scored 20 points off of turnovers.
