Church offering baked goods for sale
CAREY - Father Paul and his volunteers are staging a Super Bowl Bake Sale 4-7 p.m. today and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday in the information booth across from Our Lady of Consolation Church in Carey.
The sale is to include potato chips, candy, pies, cookies, take-and-bake pizzas and other items.
Community thank-you meal rescheduled
The Salvation Army is to host its community thank-you event Sunday at 505 E. Market St. The program is to recognize the volunteers and businesses that helped during the Red Kettle Drive.
Captain PB Stetser will announce the actual total raised. The meeting is to begin at 11 a.m. and a catered lunch is to be served at 12.30 p.m., followed by a short program.

Heidelberg Concert Choir to lead worship
St. John's United Church of Christ, 10 Main St., invites the community to a music-filled worship led by the 50-member Heidelberg Concert Choir under the direction of Gregory Ramsdell.
The service is to begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Choir selections are to include: "Musicks Empire," "Sweetheart of the Sun," "Valediction" and "Gaelic Blessing."

Three-day mission planned at St. Joseph
St. Joseph Church in Tiffin is to host a parish mission at 7 p.m. Feb. 9-11 with Father Bill Garrott.
Garrott is a Dominica priest of the Province of St. Joseph. He has a bachelor's degree in chemistry and entered the Order of Friars Preachers in 1988. Ordained to the priesthood in 1994, he has served in various parish and campus ministries in the eastern U.S. In 1999, he earned a master's degree in spiritual theology from the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. After eight years as director of vocations, Garrott became a full-time itinerant preacher. He is to incorporate keyboard and guitar music into his presentations.
A rosary is to be recited at 6:45 p.m. before each talk. The topic for Feb. 9 is "Faith and Flat Panel TVs." Feb. 10, Garrott is to present "Hope and Expandable Suitcases." The mission is to close with "Grace and the Lazy Man's Load" Feb. 11. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is to be offered after the Sunday and Monday programs.
Plan now for Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras is to return to Elizabeth Schaefer Auditorium at St. Francis Convent 6-10 p.m. March 1. Celebrate with live entertainment, dancing, singing, traditional Cajun cuisine and drink, a live auction of unique items and mystery jesters. A cash bar is to be open; the event is for those age 21 and older.

Retreat to focus on creating Sabbath space
CAREY - Our Lady of Consolation Retreat House, 321 Clay St. Carey, is to host a retreat Feb. 14-16 called "Creating Sabbath Space in Our Lives."
The retreat is to begin the evening of Feb. 14 with a Valentine lead-in. The primary focus for the retreat is to be a five-session video series with Father Ron Rolheiser titled "Creating Sabbath Space in Our Lives." The material is to be supplemented by reflective and, at times, musical musings from a retreat director, Father Marty Nassr.
The retreat is to include presentations, group discussions, time for solitude, the opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation and individual conferences, and a closing Mass Sunday morning.
The cost for the weekend is $135, which includes all meals, fresh linens and program materials.
