Vernon L. Caldwell, 90, of Republic, passed away Thursday afternoon, Feb. 13, 2014, at St. Catherine's Manor of Fostoria.
He was born May 20, 1923, in Kenton, to Charles and Hazel (Carothers) Caldwell. He married Bonnie J. Tilley Nov. 15, 1944, in Palaski, Ark., and she preceded him in death July 23, 2013.
Survivors include a son, Charles (Sandy) Caldwell of Tiffin; a daughter, Peggy Distel of Fostoria; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dwight and Clifford Caldwell.
Vernon worked for several years at Whirlpool, Clyde, retiring in 1987. He was a 1941 graduate of Scipio-Republic High School, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and a member of Wade Benfer American Legion Post No. 404, Republic.
His funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, in the chapel at Seneca Memory Gardens, Tiffin, with Pastor Darla Metz officiating. Burial will follow at the cemetery. Wade Benfer American Legion Post No. 404 will conduct military graveside services.
