Melvin L. Stansberry Sr.

Melvin L. Stansberry Sr., 78, of Carey, died at 6:29 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky, in the emergency room.

He was born Nov. 11, 1935, in Carey, the son of Paul and Gertrude (Ritter) Stansberry. He married Darlene C. Elchert Aug. 14, 1954, and she survives in Carey.

He is also survived by four children, Curtis (Mony) Stansberry of Upper Sandusky, Brian (Bonnie) Stansberry of Carey, Melanie (Harris) Hill of McCutchenville, and Chris (Jodi) Stansberry of Carey; 18 grandchildren, Anthony, Jay, Amber, Gabriel, Amy, Trisha, Jordan, Logan, Ashley, Melissa, Eric, Janet, Shelly, Harry, Mike, Winston, Lincoln and Lawyer; 27 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Nancy) Stansberry; and a sister, Eloise (Charles) Harding, both of Shelby.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a son, Melvin L. Stansberry Jr.

Melvin retired from Wyandot Dolomite, Carey, in 2003 after 35 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey. He was a car and Harley Davidson enthusiast throughout his life. His pride and joy was his dad's 1963 Ford Falcon stationwagon. He won several awards at car shows with this car. He loved family get-togethers, whether it be holidays, birthdays or just a cook-out. Family was very important to him.

Friends and family will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. A scripture service will begin at 1:30 p.m.

His Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at The Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey with the Rev. J.R. Hadnagy OFM Conv. officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Carey.

In memory of Melvin, memorials may be made to O.L.C. School or Hospice of Wyandot County in care of Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey.
