The Kansas St. James Choral Group is to begin its 26th Lenten season of performing "His Last Days" by Dallas Holmes. This sacred musical for the whole family follows Jesus' last days on Earth from Palm Sunday to Easter.
What started in 1989 as a meaningful Good Friday service at their parish has branched out across northwest Ohio and into Michigan. Over the past 25 years, the group has presented "His Last Days" 200 times to audiences of more than 40,000 while traveling more than 10,000 miles. A total of 148 individuals has been involved in the production. This year, the group has 40 members from several different churches and communities. Five have been members since its inception.
The cast members are: Bill Daunhauer as Jesus and Adam Daunhauer as Pilate; Peter, the Adulterous Woman, Mary and the Centurions are portrayed by various choir members. The narration is done by Jim Hull.
The 2014 choir is comprised of Gary Bateson, Helen Bateson, Kelsey Bateson, Theresa Chaney, Duane Copsey, Amanda Daunhauer, Bill Daunhauer, Ed Daunhauer, Helen Durst, Kelly Elchert, Kelsey Hammett, Dave Hawk, Kelsey Johnson, Kim Johnson, Steve Johnson, Zoe Johnson, Joe Kimmet, Sue Kimmet, Alex McGinnis, Angie McGinnis, Eva McGinnis, Mark McGinnis, Mary Rellinger, Elaine Roush, Ed Row, Judy Row, Bob Smith, Nancy Smith, Janet Straub, Keith Straub, Libbey Straub, Marilyn Stump, Glen Thaxton and Ann Zoeller.
Ginny Hull, director, oversees all aspects of the musical, from the choir and lighting to the technical crew. Technical assistants include Adam Daunhauer, David Daunhauer, Kelsey Johnson, Morgan Johnson, Abbey Strausbaugh and Jim Hull.
This is an ecumenical program that can be enjoyed by adults and children of all ages. The musical lasts about 45 minutes and is accompanied by slides visually retelling "His Last Days." All performances are free. Offerings are accepted and money in excess of expenses is given to a needy cause.
