FREMONT - The Vanguard-Sentinel Adult Basic and Literacy Education program is offering free classes to help improve reading, math, writing or English skills; prepare for the GED test and get ready for college or an adult certificate training program.

Celebrate Palm Sunday at the Opportunity Center
The Seneca County Opportunity Center is to celebrate Palm Sunday
with a ham and chicken dinner 11 a.m.-2 p.m. April 13.
Cost for the event is $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger.
An Easter egg hunt is to take place at 1:30 p.m. for children ages 1-10 years old. Also featured is a raffle sponsored by ACT Council of the Opportunity Center. The grand prize is $250; first prize is $150; and second prize is $50. Tickets for the raffle are $1 each or eight for $5.
Curb service, carry-outs and dining room options also are to be available.
Clyde-GS kindergarten registration begins
CLYDE The Clyde-Green Springs School District has announced beginning this fall, kindergarten students are to attend all-day, every-day classes.
Parents of a child living in the Clyde-Green Springs District who is to be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 can call to schedule an appointment to register for the 2014-15 school year by March 28.
Kindergarten registration is 10 a.m-2 p.m. April 1-11.
Parents are to provide the child's birth certificate, immunization record, Social Security card, custody papers if applicable and proof of residency.

Open enrollment applications being accepted
OLD FORT - Old Fort Local Schools are now accepting inter-district open enrollment applications for the 2014-15 school year.
Applications are available at the elementary and high school offices and online at www.oldfortschools.org.

Sentinel students compete and earn high honors
The Careers in Education classes at Sentinel Career and Technology Center competed in the Future Educators of America Competition March 7 at the University of Findlay.
The Senior Chapter Service Learning Project received first place; Halie Fitch of Columbian High School earned second place for technology video; Danielle Depinet of Mohawk High School earned fifth place for lesson plan; Jessica Kardotzke of Columbian earned sixth place for the essay contest; juniors Kasie Elchert of Columbian earned second place in job interview; Amanda Williams of Old Fort High School earned second place in lesson plan; and Sierra Wilson of Upper Sandusky High School earned fourth place in the essay contest.
DeMith to compete in national contest
Annie DeMith, daughter of Tim and Catherine DeMith of Tiffin, has been selected as a finalist for Ohio's 34th annual Homecoming Queen Selection April 12 at the Dayton Marriott.
DeMith was named the Columbian High School homecoming queen. The winner receives a cash scholarship and an all-expense paid trip to the National Finals.
Scholarships for kindergarten, first graders
NEW WASHINGTON St. Bernard School now is accepting students who are eligible for an income-based scholarship for the 2014-15 school year.
Parents are able to work with St. Bernard to complete the application process. The school is to then submit the application to the Ohio Department of Education on behalf of the family.
The deadline to apply is April 15.
The program provides scholarships to eligible students entering kindergarten or first grade in 2014-15.
St. Bernard School is taking registrations for kindergarten through eighth grade for the 2014-2015 school year. It is faith-centered and features small classes.
St. Bernard School is open to parish and non-parish members.

10 vehicles passed school buses
Since February, 10 vehicles reportedly passed school buses stopped while picking up or discharging students.
"With spring right around the corner, more children will be walking to the bus stop as well as walking and riding bicycles to school. Please drive with extra care when children are present," Randy Conger, Tiffin City Schools transportation supervisor, said.
Police scholarship application
Harold J. Fraley Sr. Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 128 Scholarship applications now are available.
Applicants must be high school seniors and a residents of Seneca County in need of financial assistance in order to continue with higher education at an accredited college or university. Applicants must be accepted by an accredited college or university and planning to attend the 20142015 school year.
Students will be eligible for up to a $500 academic award to be paid directly to the student's school of choice for tuition.
Deadline for submission is April 18.
Application requirements include a completed form with photo attached, two letters of recommendation, at least a 3.0 GPA and a current copy of their GPA and a 500-word typed essay.
All application requirements must be met for a scholarship to be awarded.

BLOOMVILLE The Bloomville Lions Club has announced applications for the 2014 Jim Newlove and Evelyn and Jerry Lutz Memorial Scholarships have been placed in area schools and the Bliss Memorial Library.
The five, $800 scholarships are available to a graduating Bloomville or Bloom Township senior. The scholarships are funded by donations and the Bloomville Lions Golf Scramble, which is to be June 7 at Clinton Heights.
