Two Tiffin Bake Shop locations are closing this week and the business is to consolidate its three locations into one.
According to a letter posted on the door of Tiffin Bake Shop's Westgate location, Coffee Break, located in the Laird Arcade, and the Westgate location will be closing. Tiffin Bake Shop's downtown location will remain open.
Today is Coffee Break's last day, and Saturday will be the last day for the Westgate location.
"We have appreciated your business over the years in our Westgate and Coffee Break locations," the letter read. "But will be closing these locations only."
"We apologize for the inconvenience but invite you to join us downtown," it read.
Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz said Thursday that after hearing a rumor in the morning that Tiffin Bake Shop was closing, he and John Detwiler, president and CEO of Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Services, went to the downtown location to talk with owner, Chris Demith.
Montz said Demith told him plans for consolidation had been in the works for a while.
"He knew for some time they'd have to consolidate," Montz said. "It's just one of the necessities of business."
Montz said he was glad to hear the downtown location, located at 273 S. Washington St., will remain open.
"It's good to hear we're still going to have Tiffin Bake Shop," he said.
The downtown location will be open Monday through Friday 5:30 a.m.-2 p.m. and Saturday 5:30 a.m.-1 p.m., the letter read.
Demith declined comment on the consolidation Thursday evening.
