2013: Second in the Midland Athletic League.

Returning letterwinners: Seniors Austin Ball (sprints); Ren Boehler (sprints); Shane Boehler (sprints); Zach Dutro (throws); Dan Reineke (mid-distance). Juniors Conner Behm (mid-distance); Tyler Long (sprints); Michael Smith (mid-distance); Donavon Stith (sprints); Anthony Traxler (hurdles/sprints). Sophomore John Brodman. ?

Others: Seniors Mike Bennett (mid-distance); Aaron Englehart (throws); Cayden Kapelka (throws). Junior Billy Burns (mid-distance). Sophomore Nick Felter (sprints). Freshman Tanner Smith (mid-distance).

Outlook: There will be no need for Behm to use blandishment this spring.

Last June was all the enticement the Senecas needed.

Shane Boehler, Ren Boehler, Ball and Long all found themselves on the podium at the Division III State Track and Field Meet in Columbus.

Now, they want to move up a couple spots.

The foursome finished third in the 4x100 relay and fourth in the 4x200.

"The fact is those four boys are back and the chemistry is already there. The handoffs are down," Behm said. "It's a matter of fine tuning it. Those four boys put in a tremendous amount of work in the offseason. That's encouraging. Now that they were three and four in the state makes them a little hungry."

On top of that, Shane Boehler was sixth in the 200 dash and eighth in the 100 dash.

Those rapid runners make it clear that the sprints and sprint relays will be the Senecas strength this year.

Behm said Dutro will be solid as well.

"Zach Dutro is going to fine for us in the discus," Behm said. "He's put in a lot of work on his form in the offseason."

Behm said he'd like his field events and mid-distance events grow this year.

Despite a second-place finish in the MAL, Behm said it will be hard to knock off the five-time champs in the final season of the league.

"I think as far as overall, we don't have the depth that other schools have," Behm said. "Seneca East is the team to beat. They have too much in too many events."

That doesn't mean the Senecas can't make a mark, or many.

"If you look at sprints and sprint relays records, they're going to be set this year and stand for all time. We have a good opportunity to set some new MAL records. As long as I can keep everyone healthy. That's the key."
