Charles L. Grine, 87, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday morning, April 17, 2014, at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin.
He was born April 21, 1926, in Tiffin, to Clarence and Mary (Scherger) Grine. He married Audrey Bish, and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary A. Ratliff of Tiffin; four grandchildren, Sharon Ratliff, Barb Schaade, Vicky Bulkowski and Brenda Ratliff; 18 great-grandchildren; 44 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild expected in July.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; son, Robert Grine in 1969; two brothers, Clete and Robert Grine; two sisters, Dolly and Marietta; one grandchild, Chester Ratliff; and one great-grandchild.
Charles was in the U.S. Army from July 26, 1944, until Aug. 17, 1946, during World War II, and worked at American Standard for 43 years, retiring May 31, 1986. He was a member of Eagles Aerie No. 402, VFW Tiffin Post No. 2858 and Tiffin Moose Lodge No. 846.
Charles enjoyed wintering in Florida for years, traveling and antiques.
His graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014, at Greenlawn Cemetery, Tiffin, with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.
