Change is in the air for Tiffin's only locally based credit union. Tiffin St. Joseph Federal Credit Union, which has served the area since 1952, is changing its name to Your Legacy Federal Credit Union, reflecting its ability to serve all of Seneca County.
The decision to undergo a name change was not one made lightly by those at Your Legacy, according to President and CEO Rick Budde, who stated Your Legacy Federal Credit Union was created on the foundation of personal, local service. The credit union has two locations in Tiffin, 25 Shaffer Park Drive and 170 S. Washington St.
"We are so grateful to those that had the vision many years ago to start a credit union," Budde said, adding the new name was chosen to honor the history and legacy of Tiffin St. Joseph Federal Credit Union.

New signage will go up at 170 S. Washington St. to reflect a name change to Your Legacy Federal Credit Union.
Over the years, the credit union has expanded to serve more of Seneca County, adopting a charter in 2003 which expanded membership to include "persons who live, work, worship, volunteer or go to school in, and businesses or other legal entities in, Seneca County, Ohio."
Despite this effort, Budde said, many people believed they had to belong to St. Joseph's Parish to be a credit union member.
"Changing the name to Your Legacy Federal Credit Union will provide greater opportunity to expand membership," Budde said. "When deciding on a name, we chose one that reflects appreciation and honor to longtime, loyal members."
Open house planned
Your Legacy Federal Credit Union is planning an open house to celebrate its name change Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the 25 Shaffer Park Drive and 170 S. Washington St. locations. A photographic history to commemorate the credit union's past is on display in the Shaffer Park Drive lobby.
He also stressed the name change does not involve a change in ownership.
"It is important that current members understand that the name change is not reflective of a merger or acquisition," he said. "The name change will not affect the course of any of their financial business or disrupt any credit card or debit card and checking services.
"All items with the old name will be active until they expire or are depleted. All subsequent items will then reflect our new name."
