Columbian grad recognized
Ottawa County sheriff Deputy Chris Cochran was recognized as 2014 Deputy of the Year by Port Clinton Kiwanis Club during a ceremony May 28.
Cochran graduated from Tiffin Columbian in 2003 and from Terra and completed the Police Academy in 2006 with an associates degree in police science.
He is the son of Bill and Kristy Cochran.

St. Francis ministries to host seminar
St. Francis Senior Ministries is to host a "Big & Loud" Educational Seminar at 2 p.m. June 25 in the multipurpose room at St. Francis Home, 182 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin.
"Big & Loud" is a program for those with Parkinson's Disease, in which participants learn to exaggerate their movement and speech. The St. Francis therapy team is to present the program and participants can tour the new therapy area at St. Francis.

Mercy to host health fair
Mercy Tiffin Hospital plans a Children's Health Fair for 9 a.m.-noon June 21 in McMullen Conference Center and Mercy Community Nature Preserve.
Attendees are to be able talk to experts and take home information on health-related topics. The first 100 children are to get a free thermometer.
Activities include screenings for asthma, speech and physical therapy; sport safety information; stuffed animal clinic; drop off for old or unused prescription medication and a dietician available to discuss healthy foods. An appearance from Mercy Children's mascot, Hugs the Hippo, also is planned.
Also, meet representatives from the Seneca County General Health District, Tiffin Community YMCA, Seneca County Help Me Grow Early Intervention Program, Optima Rehabilitation Services, Seneca County Sherriff's Office, Tiffin Fire and Rescue, Seneca County Parks District and the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center.
Area businesses recognized for safety
COLUMBUS - Hundreds of businesses around the state were recognized in May for success in keeping their employees safe on the job. The businesses were recognized during meetings of Ohio safety councils, which serve as partners in the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation's efforts to educate employers and workers about the importance of workplace safety. Each business received a special award, reserved for companies that reached at least 500,000 hours and at least six months without an injury resulting in a day or more away from work.
Area businesses recognized at a meeting of Tiffin Area Safety Council include Arnold Vending Co. Inc., Camden Falls Enterprises Inc., Church & Dwight Co. Inc., Clouse Construction Corp., Community Hospice Care, Heidelberg University, Old Fort Banking Co., Quick Tab II and Toledo Molding & Die.
