UPPER SANDUSKY - Star Theatre is to present its summer musical, "Fiddler on the Roof," at 7 p.m. today and Saturday and July 25 and 26. Matinees are at 2 p.m. Sunday and July 27.
Directed by Ron Boose, the show features music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The action is set in tsarist Russia in 1905. The main character, Tevye, is trying to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions while outside political and social influences encroach upon their lives. He must cope with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters. Each one's choice of husband moves further away from the customs of his faith. In addition, an edict of the tsar is evicting Jews from their village.
The cast includes actors from Upper Sandusky, Marion, Carey, Delaware and Findlay and is dedicated to Martin Reno of Tiffin, the rabbi in the Star's original 1994 production. The cast includes Brad Bebout, Kathy Newell, Fiona Bather, Ashley Carey, Hailie Crowder, Jacobi Bardon, Katie Homburg, Keitha Voorheis, Seth Carey, Ben Book, Jim Stauffer, Bob Bender, Levi Hill, Martin Brenneman, Mark Dann, Donovan Callahan, Nick Reid, John Massara, Kathleen Bather, Maria Smith, Destiny Allison, Taylor Blum, Seth Karcher and Laura and Andrew Stauffer.
