Katie Fazekas, former girls basketball coach at Columbian and teacher in Carey Exempted Village School District, has been charged with attempted sexual battery. She waived an indictment and pleaded guilty to a bill of information charging her with the fourth-degree felony today.
Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Shuff sentenced her to 17 months in prison. She voluntarily agreed to surrender her teaching license permanently and is being classified as a Tier III sex offender.
Fazekas resigned as Columbian's girls basketball coach after two seasons in March. Fazekas, who was an assistant with the program before becoming the head coach in the 2012-13 season, went 10-34 over her two seasons as coach.
Carey Local Board of Education approved her resignation as a health and physical education teacher in April.
