As the executive director of the Ohio High School Athletic Association, he has been the front man for an organization representing hundreds of schools, thousands of coaches and over a third of a million young athletes whose lives, seasons and possibly their future careers have been dramatically impacted, first by the coronavirus pandemic that short-circuited some winter tournaments, canceled all spring sports and is even now jeopardizing the prospect of prep sports resuming this fall, and more recently by the civil unrest demonstrated in protests across the country.
