Tigers' 4x8 runs at Nike Outdoor Nationals

EUGENE, OR – For the Seneca East 4x800 relay team, it went up against the best relays in the nation at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon Saturday. There were three heats for the 4x800 relay, as 36 teams competed from all over the US. The Tigers team of Evan Schiefer, Brad Smith, Ayden Perkins and Owen Gahring ran a time of 8:10.62, which brought them into 25th place during the preliminaries of Emerging Elite. Few locals compete at New Balance NationalsPHILADELPHIA, PA – Upper Sandusky's Ashton Clark finished in the freshman category of pole vault in 16th place at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor Championships Saturday. Clark originally qualified in the regular season to compete in pole vault for New Balance, but his PR of 13-6 from regionals surpassed the initial 12-0 qualifying standard. Clark cleared the 12-5 ½ mark, but couldn't clear the 12-11 ½ mark after three failed attempts. In addition, Clyde was represented at NBNO in the boys 4x200 relays. The team consisted of now graduated seniors Cayden Perkins and Damarius Chrisman, and incoming juniors Hector Garza and Dekin Crockett. At NBNO, the Fliers came in 37th place out of the 65 teams overall, and placed 5th in their heat with a time of 1:29.46. Hopewell-Loudon junior Aiden Ewald placed 22nd out of 55 in the discus with a toss of 175-2. Rounding out the local athletes that participated in NBNO this past weekend was Fostoria's Shia Watkins. She competed in the freshman girls category in shot put and discus. In discus, Watkins took third place out of 76, with her throw of 133-5 on her third attempt. It was a build-up to get there. On her first attempt, she threw 126-2. From there she threw a 128-0. The fourth attempt was a 113-1, followed by a 129-10 and ending on a 128-6. The top distance was 144-2. Watkins participated in the shot put category as well and took 13th overall out of 39. She hit her mark on the third attempt with 33-7 ½.Representing Carey at NBNO was freshman Lincoln Ritter. He ran in the 110 meter hurdles and came in 54th overall out of 60 with a time of 16.68, which was rounded from 16.671.
