Join adult summer reading challenge at Fostoria library

FOSTORIA — Kaubisch Memorial Public Library in Fostoria is hosting an Adult Summer Reading Program, which began on June 1, and runs until Aug. 8. Participants have an opportunity to win a $150 Kroger gift card or smaller gift card amounts to local restaurants and businesses. Participants can earn tickets one of three ways: read books, do activities, or register for the Summer Reading Beanstack Challenge via the app or website. The theme for this year's Adult Summer Reading is "Unearth a Story: Indiana Jones Style." The activities, in two categories, will be related to this theme. The "Conduct Research" category is worth 1 ticket and includes activities such as checking out 2 items, finding the Archaeology books, or logging on to a Kaubisch computer. The second category is "Go on an Adventure" and is worth 3 tickets. These activities include watching a movie on Kanopy, attending a 641 meeting, and using the Makerspace. If you're not sure which kind of activity to do, you can "unearth" a category by scratching off a sticker on the "map," available on each floor of the Library, to reveal 1 of 3 symbols: glasses, a hat and whip, or a snake; those symbols will tell you a category to pick. Kaubisch Memorial Public Library has other events coming up this summer. On Tuesday, June 23, Ellen Gatrell of the Fostoria Rail Preservation Society will be hosting a Train Presentation, where she will discuss the Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 and Fostoria's own rail history. The Big Boy 4014 will be stopping in Fostoria for a viewing on July 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Library also offers a morning and evening book club, to fit multiple schedules: 8:30 a.m. in Java's Enchanted Bean and 5:30 p.m. at The Urban Woody. There is also a Cooking Club, which does not require you to cook unless you want to. To close out Summer Reading in August, the Library is planning to show a movie downtown at Market Square Park (green space across from The UrbanWoody) on Friday, Aug. 7.
